Queen Victoria

queen vicQueen Victoria (1819 – 1901), is not only a significant monarch in British history, but also in Qing dynasty China’s. Queen Victoria was the reigning monarch during the Opium Wars, arguably the most significant event in Sino-European relations – these wars, supported by Western imperial tendencies, not only revealed inadequacies in the Chinese military and government (resulting in multiple rebellions), but also would define the entirety of British and European trade – as a result of the wars, Britain received Hong Kong island, and, along with other European nations, had pretty much indefinite access to China’s trade.
